The Heating Chamber Matters

Picking out the right vaporizer for your dry herb requires a good amount of time and research. With so many vaporizers on the market these days, finding the right one is more critical than ever as there are many companies releasing low-quality hardware. If you want your vaping experience to be as satisfying as possible, knowing what to look for is essential.

One of the most important components of your setup is the heating chamber. The way in which your heating chamber has been made has a lot to do with how enjoyable your vaping experience will be. There are many different types of heating chambers out there these days, all with different benefits that can improve your vape. We’re gonna break down the many different things to consider before picking out the heating chamber for your individual vaping needs.

What’s a Heating Chamber and What Does it Do?

A heating chamber is a component of your vaporizer’s atomizer. If you’ve ever used a vaping device, you know that the atomizer consists primarily of a heating element (commonly known as a coil) and a juice well for your e-liquid. In order for the atomizer to function properly, the wick of the coil must be saturated with the e-liquid. This prevents the coil from burning out and turns the liquid into vapor.

However, dry herb isn’t a liquid, and therefore the atomizer of your herb vaporizer must have a completely different design. That’s where a heating chamber comes in. The heating chamber is the part of your atomizer that holds your herb. Meanwhile, the coil is located somewhere below. The coil heats up when you fire your device, and this provides heat to the heating chamber which in turn heats the dry herb itself. This allows the herb to become vapor.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Heating Chamber

Here are some factors you need to look for:

Size really does matter when it comes to your heating chamber, and it’s often the most overlooked component. A small heating chamber might appeal to those who like a tight pack, but it usually ends up producing unenjoyable results. The truth is that your heating chamber needs to be wide enough to be able to heat all of your herb evenly. If all of your herb is stacked in a pile, only the bottom layer will get heated, resulting in an uneven vaping experience.

Size is also an important factor to take into consideration when deciding how often you want to pack your heating chamber. Do you really want to have to pack it several times each day? We didn’t think so. That’s why a wider, larger heating chamber is the way to go.

Conduction vs. Convection

There are two different types of heating methods when it comes to heating chambers: conduction and convection. Conduction is the type of heat that cooks a steak on a grill. The heat is applied through the bottom and makes its way to the top. Convection, on the other hand, is like putting a steak into a hot oven. The oven is circulating hot air which allows the steak to be heated on all sides.

With the convection method, the hits might take longer to produce vapor because the chamber needs to first fill up with heat. However, your herb will be heated more evenly. With the conduction method, meanwhile, the firing time is very fast although your herb will not be heated as evenly.

The material from which your heating chamber has been made is also extremely important. Remember that your coil is heating the chamber, meaning that the material must be able to handle the heat and distribute it properly. Otherwise, your herb just isn’t getting the proper heat that it needs in order to become vapor.

Ceramic is quickly becoming the material of choice because it handles heat beautifully and evenly. It’s also a great choice because of the fact that it won’t alter the taste of your herb at all. However, keep in mind that ceramic is very porous, meaning that you’ll need to clean it fairly regularly.

Glass is another great option, but bear in mind that glass is fragile, meaning that you’ll have to handle it with incredible care. Like ceramic, glass doesn’t alter the taste of your dry herb.

Many people enjoy using stainless steel heating chambers because they are great at heating up evenly. They’re also very easy to clean. However, these can be pretty expensive.

Of course, the manufacturer is also very important. Never purchase a heating chamber until you’re sure that the company makes high-quality, reliable equipment. Because this industry isn’t all that regulated, you might end up with a chamber that burns your herb, meaning that you’ll have wasted quite a bit of money.
