How to Clean a Dab Rig

Your dab rig might deliver intense satisfaction each time you hit it, but if it’s looking a bit gross, chances are you’re going to feel a little less excited about using it in the first place. Besides, if you’re planning on hosting a party, you don’t want to hand someone a dirty piece that’s covered in gunk and grime. Otherwise, you may end up grossing out your friends.

Luckily, cleaning that dab rig isn’t too hard. Really, how much time and effort goes into cleaning your dab rig depends on how often you use it and how long it’s been since you cleaned it last.

General Maintenance

First, let’s explain how to maintain your dab rig so that it never gets to the point of grossing out everyone who comes over. The easiest way to maintain it is to rub down the inside with a wet cotton swab after each use. This will dislodge any oil and gunk that got on the sides. Then, if you’d like, you can run some water through it just to rinse away anything that’s left.

Cleaning it After Letting it Get Dirty

If you’ve been slacking on maintenance, chances are that your dab rig isn’t looking so good these days. Fortunately, it’s still not that hard to clean it, as you’ll see. And, it really only requires a few materials and a short amount of time.

  • Step 1: Grab something lying around the house that can scrape the inside walls of the rig. Make sure that it’s not too sharp as you want to scrape rather than scratch. Some people like to take a wire hanger and straighten the top of it. Others may find that a tool in their toolbox works best. Note: Gently but firmly scrape every portion of your dab rig. Do a back-and-forth motion to really dislodge any gunk that has accumulated.
  • Step 2: Next, you’ll want to apply heat to the rig in order to burn any gunk. This process will allow that sticky gunk to turn into ash that can easily be washed away. You can find torches that are specially designed for this purpose. Apply heat evenly throughout the rig, starting with a low amount of heat and gradually increasing so that you don’t crack the rig due to a drastic, sudden change in temperature.
  • Step 3: Now, it’s time to give your dab rig a nice bath. Submerge it into a bath of one-part water and one-part rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will dislodge any remaining gunk and leave your rig looking like it did the day you got it. Leave it for about an hour before giving it a final rinse.

By following these steps, your dab rig will look brand new in no time.
