Any serious dabber will tell you that a banger is a serious gamechanger. Bangers open up the world of possibilities to anyone who dabs, offering lots of advantages that make the entire experience more enjoyable. But, it’s very important to choose a high-quality banger to get as much enjoyment as possible out of it, and many will tell you that it’s equally important to maintain it properly.

Even the highest-end banger will eventually disappoint you if it’s not being cleaned regularly. Cleaning your banger is a process that should be performed very frequently, and you’ll quickly find that it’s not all that complicated or tedious of a process. A banger can’t just be cleaned with any old materials lying around in your house, however. There is a proper method that will ensure both proper cleanliness as well as safety.

Why Do Bangers Need to Be Cleaned?

Each time you vaporize your concentrates, what’s left behind is a small amount of gunky residue. Over time, this accumulates on the banger material, and as a result, the banger begins to look gnarly and discolored. Beyond the aesthetics, however, a dirty banger will result in poor flavor, as a lot of what you’re tasting is stale, burnt dab gunk and debris. If it’s dirty enough, it can even interfere with heat distribution by adding another layer that the heat must pass through in order to properly allow your dabs to reach the desired temperature.

Are Some Bangers Easier to Clean Than Others?

Fortunately, all bangers on the market are generally easy to clean, and even follow the same type of cleaning process regardless of size or material in almost all cases. Although, if you’re looking for the one type of banger that’s overall easier to clean than the rest, your best bet is one made from quartz. You see, quartz remains the most popular material for many reasons, and its great response to cleaning is just the icing on the cake. It’s also less likely to shatter if dropped during the cleaning process than other materials like ceramic and glass, as a plus.

How Often Should Yor Banger Be Cleaned?

Ideally, you should be cleaning your banger after each use. Why? Because each dabbing session produces enough residue that it can interfere with flavor enough for serious dab connoisseurs to notice. Now, if you just don’t have the time for that, make an effort to clean it at least once a week, assuming that you are a regular user.

The Basics of Cleaning Your Banger

Like we said, the process of cleaning your banger applies to all bangers, so it doesn’t matter what kind of banger is in your possession as the method below will work just fine.

Step #1: Soak It

Just like we do with dirty pots and pans, the first step is soaking the banger. This allows a solution to work its way into the residue and break it up so that the actual labor of cleaning is a lot easier and faster. You’ll want to find a cleaning solution made specially for bangers, or make your own using salt, water and isopropyl alcohol. These ingredients effectively lift debris away from the banger by breaking it up. The longer you let it soak, the less hard you’ll need to scrub later on. Best to soak it overnight, but a couple of hours will work fine enough.

Step #2: Rinse

Next, you can rinse your banger to get rid of the solution. We recommend doing this under warm water for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Step #3: Scrub and Scrape

Now, the residue should be nice and loose. Scrub it with a non-corrosive material like a gentle sponge and use your trusty dab tool to gently scrape off any more stubborn bits of gunk that have clung to the banger.

Step #4: Apply Heat

The steps above may be enough if your banger is not particularly dirty, but this will really ensure a perfectly clean banger that looks brand new. Heat the banger to about 800 degrees, as if you were going in for a dab. This will dehydrate any gunk that’s left, turning it into ash that can just be rinsed away. Then, wipe down the entire banger with a clean, dry cloth.

Step #5: Repeat (Only if Necessary)

If your banger has gone without a cleaning session for ages, it may be so dirty that it requires that you repeat the entire process above. We promise that once you do get it clean, a weekly session afterward will not take nearly as long.

Final Tips

  1. It’s very important that you never, ever clean a banger using a cleaning solution that’s made with strong chemicals, which would include almost any household cleaner you use for cleaning around the house.
  2. Only the solutions recommended above are safe to use.
  3. Avoid abrasive cleaning materials like steel wool, which can cause small tears in the material over time that trap gunk later on, making cleaning harder and harder over time.

At the end of the day, taking care of your dabbing equipment offers a big payoff. It ensures better flavor, heat distribution and overall performance of your equipment. Besides that, no one wants to look at a dirty, crusty banger when they go in for a nice puff of vapor.
