The first Solo from Arizer won over many fans by proving that a portable vaporizer could match the vapor quality and taste of bulkier desktop models. While not perfect by any means, it established the Solo line as a top tier device beating out even more expensive competition. Now, in comes the new Solo 2 that builds upon this reputation and takes the original design to new heights with a host of welcome improvements.

Improvements and Additions

Comparing the old and new models side-by-side you’ll first notice the slightly slimmer oval shaped diameter. This allows a more relaxed grip when in use but otherwise the Solo 2 is similar in dimension. It weighs a few grams lighter too, yet comes in a sturdier casing. Heating is still mostly conduction-based with a ceramic heating chamber. Your herbs are loaded into a glass tube that are interchangeable with the original Solo’s. Two tubes are included and these can even be pre-loaded with your herb ahead of time so that you can start a session more quickly. The glass tubes have a few other advantages. For example, your herb doesn’t touch any other surfaces so you get the purest of flavor possible. Secondly, it makes clean up really simple. The only downside is the possibility of breaking them so it might be a good idea to order a few spares just in case. If there was one common complaint with the Solo I, it was a lack of a robust battery charge time. You could expect maybe 1.5 hours and 5-10 sessions at best. For many the extremely flavorful vapor quality made up for this shortcoming but with the Solo 2 you don’t need to compromise any longer. The new battery just about doubles the available uses from up to 20 at over three hours of charge. This will vary depending on what temperatures you operate at yet, even at the highest settings you won’t have to keep reaching for the charger nearly as often. A total charge takes about three hours but the device can be used while plugged in. So, as long as you have an outlet handy you’ll never need to go without. Although the long charge time means you could conceivably take the Solo 2 out and about it’s not really the best vape to use when extreme stealthiness is desired. The protruding glass tubes will pretty much give it away making the Solo better suited for leisurely carrying around your home or at a friends’. There’s two color styles to choose from: Mystic Blue and Carbon Black. A few add-ons such as water pipes and longer tubes to assist in cooler vapor are also available.

Adjusting Settings

Along with the new informative OLED that shows battery level and the current temperature, there is a list of custom settings that can easily be accessed to customize how you use the Solo 2. These include:

  • Audio adjust
  • Power On Delay
  • Temperature control
  • Screen brightness

Operating The Arizer Solo 2

To start up the Solo 2 press and hold both the up and down buttons together for four seconds (or whatever the power on delay is set to.) Fill bottom of glass tube with herb (up to .25 grams) and attach to the vaporizer. Press both the up and down buttons and the device will start to heat at the last selected temperature as indicated on the OLED. To change the temperature just press the up or down button to step in one degree increments. You can also step in ten degree increments by holding either button down. Heat up time is improved from the first Solo and takes up to about 40 seconds on the higher temperatures but only 15-30 seconds on others. Once it’s heated up you’ll find the draw is light and even big clouds won’t clog up the unit as was the case sometimes with the first Solo. This is down to an improved airflow, yet another useful enhancement this sequel offers.

Buying The Arizer Solo 2

At around $250, the Solo 2 sits in the upper price range of vapes for dry herb but considering it offers a sophisticated vapor quality usually only available in much more expensive models we still find it a bargain. This does come at another cost in pure portability but for those chasing the best vapor around it will surely be a trade-off worth taking.
