Herbal Vaping is all in the Ohms – Part 1: Brief Overview

"Watt" is an Ohm?

So maybe the word "Ohm" rings a bell from some distant high school science class. You might vaguely remember it being mentioned about electricity. To go for the technical explanation, an Ohm is a unit of electrical resistance. Put simply, it is a measure of how easily electricity can flow through a material. So, the science is cool, but what does it have to do with the world of herbal vaping?

Herbal Vaping and Ohms?

So the application of resistance in vaping is that when electricity passes through a material, it heats up. You might see where this is going with herbal vaping. Essentially, the vape provides electricity to a coil that heats up and vaporizes your herbs or concentrates. Basically, the lower the ohm value on your vape coil, the quicker it heats up, and the bigger cloud of vapor you get. However, this of course has some trade-offs, as it burns through the herbs or concentrates faster, and can drain your battery. On the flip side, higher ohm coils provide you with a cooler vapor, drain your battery slower, and use less herbs and concentrates.

What is the Best Ohm level?

In short, there is no "best" ohm level. It all depends on what you want from your vaporizer. If you want big clouds of vapor and don't care about your battery, go for a low ohm coil in the 1.5-ohm range. If you want to save on battery life, herbs or concentrates, and want less of a throat hit, then go for a higher ohm coil in the range of 2.4-ohms to 3-ohms. The decision is yours. Try different resistances out and see how you like them.

Stay tuned as we cover part 2 of Ohms as they pertain to the world of herbal vaping and a mathematical breakdown of Ohm’s Law.
